If you use SSRS 2008 R2 from BIDS you might get the error below:
The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services
There are two answers to this question:
1) Microsoft decided not to support shared datasets in all editions of SQL Server 2008 R2. Please see below editions that do not support shared datasets:
Express Edition with Advanced Services
Workgroup Edition
Web Edition

MSDN The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services
2) If your server is not express, web or workgroup edition then make sure you have specified correct release (R2) in deployment. See below screen shot.
