ssrs the feature shared dataset is not supported in this edition of reporting services
If you use SSRS 2008 R2 from BIDS you might get the error below:

The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services

There are two answers to this question:
1) Microsoft decided not to support shared datasets in all editions of SQL Server 2008 R2. Please see below editions that do not support shared datasets:

  • Express Edition with Advanced Services
  • Workgroup Edition
  • Web Edition

2) If your server is not express, web or workgroup edition then make sure you have specified correct release (R2) in deployment. See below screen shot.
