diffrence b/w dataconversion and derived column

Hi Venkat,

The difference is that Data Conversion Transformation is a component on its own doing just data conversion and believe you can "replace" column with new data type where is with Derived Column you should be able to do that.

Personally I rarely use Data Conversion Transformations and prefer to do it at source or using Derived Column.

I was struggling with resolving an issue with precedence constraints and your no 4 video provided the answer.

Hiii Katie and Emil,

I am trying to load the data from a flat file to sql server database and I am getting status type 4 error. And I am pretty much sure that it is showing the error on the column "Created" which has the content as "2013 - 05 - 02 16:03:34".

I have even cross checked the datatype, allocated size and also tried to convert using DT_DBTIMESTAMP2 & DT_DBTIMESTAMP & also DT_DBTIME. But none of them is working. When I take of this column from the flat file and try to load the data, its working fine. Can you give me any suggestions on this.

I appreciate for your valuable time. Thank You

Try to set the data type (text file connection) to string 50 and also import using excel to see if there is anything unsual in the values for this column.

Also you might be getting several error messages and one of them should be more descriptive.

Take care
